New FIT Pathway- Everything you need to know can be found in the video below.

This pathway REPLACES the current NG12 and DG30 guidance in your area and affects all patients aged 18 years and above with suspected LGI cancers.

This revised pathway includes expanded use of FIT, aligning to guidance from the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland (ACPGBI), which is supported by NHSE and accredited by NICE. It is also underpinned by compelling evidence to support the use of FIT in conjunction with relevant blood tests, history and clinical examination to determine the appropriate referral or management pathway, improving the detection of cancers and improve patient experience.

Helpful information for GP Practices

1.    Kits will be delivered to practices once a month
2.    Ordering and stock control will be managed by the lab. No direct access to MAST portal is required for GP's
3.    FIT kit is to be given to the patient labelled with the patient specimen number from the ICE form at point of order. Key message to GPs is that they need to ensure they attach the ICE label to the sample bottle for the patients when they give to them, all instructions for the patients are in a leaflet included with the pack
4.    If a patient loses their kit/needs a replacement a new order will need to be placed on ICE prior to giving a replacement - This is primarily for stock control and activity.
5.    Stock count will need to be done at the end of the month while we transition to this form of distribution. This is to ensure the stock is being correctly managed and practices are not going to run out while we review the new process.
6.    FIT results will no longer be telephoned by the laboratory - this is to fall in line with regional practice.
7.    There will be no change to the 7-day reminder on ICE that a kit hasn't been returned and there will be no change to the closure of episodes at day 28 if the kit is not returned.
